2010 RHS Marching Band Awards Banquet

Dear fellow Rough Riders,

The RHS Marching Band's Awards Banquet is next week:

Date:  Friday April 23, 2010

Time: 6p - 12a

Location: Almansor Court in Alhambra

Cost: $25 per person

If you are able to attend, it would be a great way to show your support for the RHS Marching Band.  If you are unable to attend, please consider sponsoring a student for $25 (the cost of a ticket).  For more information about the event or about how to sponsor a student, please contact the RHS Marching Band director, Dr. Suzanne Gindin, at suzanne.gindin@gmail.com

Disneynature "OCEANS": El Capitan Movie Fundraiser

Dear friends and family of the Rough Rider Alumni Band:

You are invited to join us for a fundraiser group showing of the new Disneynature movie "OCEANS" at the beautiful El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, on Saturday May 8th.  Tickets for the this 10am showing are $12 each, and profits will help fund future Rough Rider Alumni Band projects.

If you wish to purchase your tickets in person, you may do so at any of the next two Alumni Band practices (Tuesday April 6, Tuesday April 20) at Roosevelt High School's Band Room from 7-9pm.

Rough Rider Alumni Band Family Picnic

When: Saturday June 26, 2010

Where: Whittier Narrows Park "Three Trees" Area

Why: A chance for all RHS Marching Band alumni (whether you're an Alumni Band member or not) and their families, to enjoy a nice afternoon together.

Cost: Around $5 for adults and $3 for kids.  This is not a fundraising effort and all proceeds will go toward the cost of food and supplies for the picnic.

So You Wanna Join Alumni Band...

Were you in Marching Band at Roosevelt?  Remember what it was like to perform music with your band mates, and all the excitement you felt in the stands and on the field during half-time shows... especially at the East L.A. Classic?  Do you ever miss it?  Join the Rough Rider Alumni Band and you can re-live it all over again! 

If you were a member in good standing of the Marching Band at Roosevelt for at least one full seasonand you graduated from RHS, you can become a member.  At the moment we practice every other Tuesday at 7pm in the RHS Band Room and I encourage you to stop by, whether it's just to listen and watch or to actually join us. 

We play classic marching band tunes from the early 80's, some college fight songs (especially those played by the USC Trojan Marching Band), as well as the pep tunes that everyone knows (Go Mighty Riders, So Proud To Be A Rider, RHS Tubas, etc...). We sound pretty good, but we can use additional trumpets, low brass, saxes, woodwinds, and percussion. Don't be shy to try, even if it has been 20+ years since you last picked up your instrument. It really IS just like riding a bike, and you won't believe how pleasantly nostalgic your experience will be the first time you walk into the band room after all these years. Help us to show the band of today what it's all about, and become a member of the Rough Rider Alumni Band!
